Dear Parents,
I trust that you are all keeping well. The adventure continues, as we navigate through new changes and challenges daily. In reflecting on the times we are living in and what we are facing, I was left with a sense of awe of how God has been using this situation.
While by no means do I believe that God was the author behind this pandemic whose primary fruits are fear, panic, and worry; I do have the conviction that God is writing a parallel narrative that is far greater. Let me explain what I mean.
Over the past few weeks, there have been many blessings that have come through and God has changed the way our society is doing things. Here are a few examples:
- More people are praying. I know many churches have reported that virtual prayer meetings have generated a lot more interest and have seen increased attendance in comparison.
- There are fewer distractions with entertainment. As an avid sports fan, I miss watching games; however, I’m also aware that this can sometimes take up more of my time than what might be ideal. Whether your thing is going to movies. concerts, sporting events, or other forms of entertainment, this has been removed for the time being.
- Some evil practices have come to a halt. For example, human trafficking has been drastically reduced as a result of social isolation.
- Biblical structures such as Sabbath are coming back. It was announced in Quebec that they will be asking stores and businesses to close on Sundays to give people a chance to rest.
- Family Time is more frequent. While some people may see this as a negative, there are now more opportunities to spend time with family. I have observed an increase in parents playing with their children outside or going for a family walk or bike ride.
- We are able to connect (virtually or over the phone) with many people whom we didn’t always interact with on a regular basis before. Since we aren’t socializing in person, I find many people are connecting using different means. Case in point, I had someone reach out to me from outside the Trinity community that I hadn’t heard from in 2 years, as a result of viewing our online chapel.
- Our dependence on God has greatly increased and people are more sensitive to the gospel. In times like this, we realize how fragile and small we are in comparison to what is going on in the world. At the same time, we recognize our need for our heavenly father who has created us and given us significance.
