A Christian Curriculum for Grades 1-6

At Trinity Christian School, our Grades 1–6 program supports students during their most formative years—academically, spiritually, and personally. As a private Christian school in Burlington, Ontario, we follow the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum while bringing each subject to life through a Biblical worldview.

From the classroom to the playground, students are guided to grow in both knowledge and faith, learning what it means to live and reflect Christ in their everyday lives. It’s a place where each child is known, supported, and inspired to grow with confidence.

Where Learning, Faith,

During the elementary years, students begin to develop the skills, habits, and mindset that shape how they learn and interact with the world around them. Our approach focuses on three key areas:

Building Strong Academic Skills:

Through structured instruction, hands-on experiences, and meaningful application, students develop essential literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking skills that support long-term success.

Growing in Faith and Character:

Character development is woven into daily learning. Students explore what it means to live with kindness, responsibility, gratitude, and perseverance—grounded in a Christ-centred perspective.

Creating Meaningful Work:

Students are invited to take ownership of their learning, producing thoughtful, creative work that reflects both effort and understanding.

Grades 1-6: Building a Strong Foundation

In Grades 1-6, students engage in a nurturing, faith-filled learning environment designed to develop essential skills and Biblical values.

Highlights include:

Language Arts

  • 100 minutes daily of structured literacy instruction aligned with the Science of Reading. Writing instruction using the 6+1 Traits of Writing program.

Mathematics

French

  • Core French instruction using AIM methodology, with enriched conversational options for Grades 1-4.

Science & Social Studies

  • Inquiry-based learning units from Edvance with a Biblical framework.

Physical Education & Health

  • Holistic programs teach healthy living as a form of stewardship for God’s creation.

Arts

  • Choir for K-2, recorder or ukulele instruction in Grades 3-5, and instrumental band for Grades 6-8.

Biblical Studies

  • Daily devotions and engaging, comprehensive view of the Bible and life application.

Assessment and Growth

Assessment is carefully integrated into the learning experience, helping teachers support each child’s progress while building confidence and independence.

  • Teachers use a variety of strategies to understand student progress and provide timely, supportive feedback.

Aligned with Ontario Curriculum Expectations:

  • Instruction and assessment are closely connected to ensure students are developing the knowledge and skills needed for continued success.

  • Reading and writing skills are carefully supported through regular assessment of phonemic awareness, fluency, and comprehension.

Developing Responsibility and Reflection:

  • Students begin to reflect on their learning, building early habits in organization, responsibility, and self-regulation.
