Dear Parents,
A verse that has been coming back to my mind lately is Psalm 118:24, which says, “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” The word rejoice according to the Webster’s Dictionary means to “give joy” or “great delight”. In other words, this day and every day is made by God, which should bring us great joy.
I’m not sure about you, but when I look at the world around us, listen to the news, and go about my daily routine I often forget this. The negativity in this world can easily seep into my thinking. As a result, joy is not always my default emotion, but rather it’s something that I need to remind myself to do.
During our chapel today, we spoke about the fact that we are God’s ambassadors on this earth and discussed what this means. We represent Him wherever we go in our words and conduct. One of the trademarks of a spirit-filled life is joy, which is also translated as delight. This happens to be one of the character traits at Trinity. We desire to be a place where joy and delight are visibly displayed in our staff and students alike.
We have a great opportunity to live this out and offer this to a world that is desperately looking for something that goes beyond fleeting happiness, but is instead rooted in a relationship with God. We know that joy comes out of His character and thus emerges from us, as we allow God to be reflected in our hearts and lives.
In the words of Helen Keller, “Joy is the holy fire that keeps our purpose warm and our intelligence aglow.”
